The Livingston Post teamed up with the League of Women Voters and WHMI on the Republican primary forums for county prosecutor, the 47th state House district, and the 8th Congressional District.
Because of COVID-19, the forums were conducted virtually on June 24, 2020, with the assistance of Glenn Fischer of the Hartland Cromaine District Library.
Below is the recording for the race for the 47th state House District.
There are four candidates in the Aug. 4, 2020, Republican primary for Michigan’s 47th state House District, three of whom were present for the forum: Bob Bezotte, a current county commissioner and former sheriff; Yvonne Black of Marion Township; and Meghan Reckling, chair of the Livingston County Republican Party. Zachary Dyba, the assistant to the township manager in Brighton Township, was not able to take part.
The winner will face Democrat Adam Smiddy, former director of Livingston County Veterans Services, in the fall.
The 47th District includes the City of Howell; the Village of Fowlerville; part of the City of Fenton; and the townships of Conway, Cohoctah, Deerfield, Hartland, Handy, Iosco, Unadilla, Oceola, Marion and Tyrone.
The seat is currently held by term-limited Republican state Rep. Hank Vaupel of Fowlerville.
