At about 1:25 a.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, troopers from the Brighton Post of the Michigan State Police were dispatched to the area of northbound US-23 near Clyde Rd for a three-car crash.
According to a release from the Michigan State Police, the preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old female from Grand Blanc was stopped on the shoulder of northbound US-23 with vehicle issues. Then a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old Howell man with two passengers left the roadway and struck the disabled vehicle from behind.
The collision sent the disabled vehicle into the ditch, causing it to rollover. Due to the crash, the vehicle driven by the 60-year-old Howell man became disabled in the right lane of travel and was struck by a third vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Fenton woman.
The 60-year-old Howell man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 58-year-old passenger in his car suffered critical injuries and was transported to Ascension Genesis Hospital in Grand Blanc. The third person in the vehicle was also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The drivers of the other vehicles were also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs appear to be factors in the original crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The Michigan State Police troopers were assisted by the Livingston County EMS and the Hartland Township Fire Department.
