A Fowlerville woman who hit a school bus at about 8 a.m. Tuesday after falling asleep while driving was transported by Livingston County EMS to Sparrow Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the crash site on Hayner Road east of Owosso Road in Cohoctah Township. The preliminary investigation evealed that the school bus was stopped eastbound on Hayner Road with flashing red lights on, loading a student, when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Ford Escape.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, a 29-year-old Fowlerville woman, reported that she had fallen asleep while driving, which led to the crash.
No injuries were reported on the bus which contained five students. The driver of the Ford Escape was extricated by Howell Area Fire Department personnel and then transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing with non-life threatening injuries by Livingston County EMS.
As a reminder to motorists, driving while fatigued can be just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated.
