After weeks of controversy, the Drag Queen Bingo event slated at the Historic Howell Theater for Aug. 14 has been cancelled. You can read our coverage of all the controversy by clicking here.

It appears the cancellation was a joint decision between the Howell Area Parks and Recreation Authority and Beauty Beyond Drag Productions.

Tim Church, director of HAPRA, said in a message that there were “many reasons that led to this decision,” but that “ultimately, it came down to a mutual understanding that the safety and well-being of our performers, attendees, volunteers and staff was a huge priority.”

Ticket holders will receive a full refund.

“We’d like to thank everyone who reached out in support of the event and are sincerely sorry for the cancellation,” Church said. “We know that many were looking forward to this event, and this news comes as a disappointment.”

The Mini Melon event is set for noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, on the lawn of the historic Livingston County Courthouse. Inflatables, games, activities, music and more will be featured.
