Rumors of a Hobby Lobby arts and crafts store coming to the former Carson’s store location in the Grand River Plaza strip mall in Genoa Township appear to be just that: rumors.

Genoa Township officials said they have no knowledge of a Hobby Lobby coming to that shopping center.

According to a Hobby Lobby representative, while a store is set to open in Midland on Oct. 16, and a location in Ludington is scheduled to open in 2024, there are no stores currently slated for Livingston County.

This doesn’t mean there couldn’t be a store headed to Genoa Township in the future.

“Once construction begins on a store, you can find it in our store finder,” said a Hobby Lobby representative, who added that new locations are generally added to its store finder list at the beginning of the month.

Sold to the holding company of Bon-Ton in 2006, but still operated under the Carson name, the entire Bon-Ton collection of stores, including Carson’s, went into bankruptcy and closed in 2018. Prior to Carson’s in that Grand River Plaza spot was Elder-Beerman, part of the chain of founded in 1883, the last stores of which closed in 2018.
