Deputy locates missing dementia patient in swamp by Hartland High School

A 92-year-old Flint man, reported as a missing dementia patient to the Michigan State Police Post in Flint on Saturday, Dec. 30, was found several hours later suffering from hypothermia in a swamp near Hartland High School by a deputy from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the man was found after a Hartland couple arrived at the high school at about 9:25 a.m. Saturday for a walk; they spotted his unoccupied car parked in the grass behind the school with its doors open and windshield wipers operating and reported it to 9-1-1.The deputy from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office who responded located the vehicle’s owner in the swamp.

The deputy got the missing man out of the swamp and called Livingston County Ambulance, which provided medical treatment and transported the man to Hurley Hospital in Flint. It is unknown how long the man had been in the swamp.

The Hartland Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
