Demonstrators wearing face masks and waving Nazi flags showed up at the American Legion Hall at 3268 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell Township on Friday, Nov. 9, to protest a Fowlerville Community Theater performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank” taking place there.

A small group of 5-10 men, described as being in their early 20s, was protesting. According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, when they were asked to leave the American Legion property, they did so, moving their demonstration across the street.

At one point during the demonstration, the protesters reportedly chanted “Anne Frank was a whore.”

While they were demonstrating across the street, a person approached them and an argument ensued. The Sheriff’s Office said nothing physical transpired, and the parties involved ultimately separated.

The play went on throughout the weekend as planned without further incident. Deputies continued to patrol the area the rest of the weekend, and reports that there were no further issues.

It is unknown whether this group of demonstrators is part of the group that demonstrated in various spots in Howell in July. (You can read about those demonstrations here.)
