Baby boomers, who will soon comprise 20% of the U.S. population, are redefining what it means to be older. A majority of Americans over 65 are women, and many are widowed or divorced, but gone are the days of Granny retired to a rocking chair. Instead, modern seniors actively seek travel and business opportunities and new, meaningful relationships.

Wendy Day

In her latest novel, Livingston County author Wendy Day takes a lighthearted approach to the challenges that two friends face after the death of a not-so-bereaved husband by sending them on a madcap adventure to Mexico.

“Mexico, Margaritas, and Murder” explores issues facing women in their golden years, including widowhood, dating after 60, finding independence, and fighting loneliness using humor and snappy dialogue.

“It’s an escape from the depressing news that seems to fill the world, and it challenges young people’s preconceptions of aging,” Day said. “Kids often dismiss older people when they can actually be a source of courage and resilience.”

Day speaks from experience: “I wrote this book for my Grandma Sally and Great-grandma Pearl,” Day said, “It’s not exactly their story, but a tribute to their spirit and the impact they had on my life.”

The book be available at major retailers and online at Amazon.

This is the third novel by Day to be released in the past two years through her independent label, Open Sky Publishing. Day resides in Brighton, MI, with her husband, children, two dogs, and one entitled cat.

Day will also be at the Brighton District Library’s author showcase on Sunday.

Early praise for “Mexico, Margaritas, and Murder“

What a delightful surprise. Although there is certainly humor, there are also moments that show human nature, growth, fear of both failure and not being who you were meant to be, and the strength to find that person.” – Author June Price.
