To celebrate Earth Day, the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club is hosting a special event 1-4 p.m.  Saturday, April 20, at the Millpond Amphitheater in downtown Brighton that will feature speakers, live music, kids’ activities, a food tent with VegMichigan, and informational tables from environmental groups in the area.

The public is invited to browse through the offerings, enjoy the music and increase their awareness about environmental issues that affect our planet. Planned speakers include the Mayor of Howell, a Brighton City councilman, state Rep. Jennifer Conlin, a member of U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s staff, and solar expert Mike Buza.

Local organizations joining the Crossroads Group in this event include the Huron River Watershed Council, the Huron Valley Group of the Sierra Club, the Huron Valley Audubon Society, the Hartland Audubon Nature Club, and the Livingston Land Conservancy.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will offer kids activities, and Quartz and Company — a zero- waste, Earth-friendly store in Howell — will have information and products. To lend support to these groups, the director of the Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance.

Whether you come to show your support for the health of our planet, enjoy the music, listen to the featured speakers, or take part in all the above, there will be much to learn and enjoy for all ages at this special Earth Day celebration.
