A 16-year-old was killed in a single-car crash Tuesday on Whitmore Lake Road near M-36 in Green Oak Township after they were ejected from the Mercury Montego in which they were a back seat passenger.

According to a release from the Green Oak Township Police Department, officers responded to the accident at about 10:36 p.m. The Mercury Montego with three teens inside rolled over during the crash: life-saving efforts were initiated on the 16-year-old rear seat passenger who was ejected, but they were unsuccessful, and the juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The front-seat passenger, 16, suffered injuries, as did the 18-year-old driver. Both were transported to a hospital.

The preliminary investigation suggests the alcohol and/or drugs may have been factors in the crash. The 18-year-old driver refused to submit to a preliminary breath test; as a result, a search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and those results are currently pending.

Identifying information of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation, and the Green Oak Township Police Department is working in coordination with the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office to determine potential charges.
