A 58-year-old Fowlerville woman was injured Wednesday when she failed to yield to another driver while she was attempting to turn left into the drive leading to the Walmart parking lot on Wednesday, May 5.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:06 p.m. for a two-vehicle serious injury crash at the traffic light-controlled intersection leading into Walmart in Genoa Township
The preliminary investigation indicates that the woman, who was driving a 2015 Ford Fiesta westbound on Grand River Avenue, was turning left at the traffic light to head south into the Walmart parking lot when she failed to yield to a 2010 Ford Fusion driven by an 18-year-old Dewitt man who was heading east on Grand River Avenue.
The 2015 Ford Fiesta was struck in the passenger side by the 2010 Ford Fusion as it turned. The driver of the Fiesta — who was not wearing a seat belt — was injured in the crash. She was transported by Livingston County Ambulance to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor for treatment.
The driver of the Fusion — who was wearing his seat belt — was not injured.
Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction for about two hours during the investigation and cleanup.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Brighton Fire Department and Livingston County Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation.
