COVID-19: Death rate increasing in Livingston County; vaccine supply ‘extremely limited’

Sharing is caring!

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Livingston County is now 101. According to the Livingston County Health Department, the rate of deaths has been “steadily increasing since mid-October.” Over the past two weeks, five people in Livingston County have died from the virus, a number similar to the previous two-week period in which there were six deaths.

The two age groups with the highest percentage increase in number of cases are at opposite ends of the spectrum: those over 80, and those under 20.

The supply of vaccines is “extremely limited at the local level,” according to the LCHD; over 25,000 people have signed up to receive the vaccine, but current supplies do not meet the demand. The LCHD is continuing to vaccinate people in Phases 1A and 1B: health care workers, residents in long-term care facilities, individuals aged 65 and older, and some front-line workers. Along with other local health department and hospital systems, the LCHD continues to receive small allotments from the state.

Those living or working in Livingston County and seeking vaccinations should follow these steps:

• Check first with their healthcare system’s website to see if vaccines are available through them.

• If the vaccine is unavailable through their primary healthcare provider, they can complete the online COVID-19 Vaccination Interest Form.

• After completing the form, the LCHD will contact people when it is able to offer appointments, which made take several days or weeks.

• To ensure the equitable distribution of the vaccine, the LCHD is extending invitations to schedule a vaccine appointment to a select number of randomly identified community members who have completed the COVID-19 Vaccination Interest Form.

• Community members will receive vaccine appointment invitations in phases to ensure a seamless experience at our vaccine clinics, and to ensure adequate vaccine supply.
