The Livingston County Board of Commissioners has joined the annual national Constitution Week observance commemorating the 1787 adoption of the United States Constitution by passing its own proclamation.
Running Sept. 17-23 annually since enacted on Aug. 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the purpose of the week is to promote the study and education of the U.S. Constitution, originally adopted by the Congress of the Confederation on Sept. 17, 1787. Many naturalization ceremonies are held during Constitution Week.
In a release, the Livingston County Board of Commissioners asks residents to “celebrate the Constitution’s memorable anniversary” and reaffirm the ideals framers had in 1787 by “vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us.”
