Livingston County schools are inviting caring, dependable individuals to join their transportation teams as bus drivers and bus assistants, serving students in Brighton, Hartland, Howell, Pinckney, and Specialized Transportation.
Bus driving offers competitive pay, paid training, and a schedule that follows the school day — making it a great opportunity for parents, retirees, and those looking to give back. Wages start between $20.78 and $23.07 per hour, with consistent hours, retirement eligibility, and full-time benefits, including agency-paid single-subscriber health insurance or a $5,000 annual cash-in-lieu option.
“This is the best job for a parent,” said Tracy Basset, a driver. “I have the same schedule as my kids. I never have to worry about a babysitter. I don’t miss anything that’s important”
Drivers also highlight the strong training and supportive environment provided.
“You get wonderful training here. It was easier than I thought it would be to drive,” said driver Lynn Ridge.
Another driver emphasized the sense of community among transportation staff.
“I like being a bus driver,” said Tom Little. “I love my job. I love my fellow bus drivers. I love the management here. I feel like a part of a family here.”
Pinckney and Specialized Transportation are also hiring bus assistants, with wages ranging from $15.99 to $18.23 per hour—a great opportunity to work with students, enjoy the same school-day schedule, and support transportation without being behind the wheel.
With comprehensive training and ongoing support, drivers and assistants provide safe, reliable transportation for students on daily routes, field trips, athletic events, and specialized services for students with disabilities.
