Community Theatre of Howell presents the powerful rock musical “Next to Normal”

The Community Theatre of Howell is presenting “Next to Normal,” an electrifying and deeply moving rock musical that explores the complexities of mental health and family dynamics. Performances will take place May 8-10 and May 16-18 at the Community Theatre of Howell, Howell High School Freshman Campus Auditorium, 1400 W. Grand River Ave., Howell.

With a powerful book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and a stunning score by Tom Kitt, “Next to Normal” tells the story of Diana Goodman, a mother battling bipolar disorder, and the impact of her illness on her family. As they navigate the challenges of love, loss, and hope, audiences will be taken on an emotional journey that is both heart-wrenching and uplifting.

“This production is a raw and honest portrayal of mental health struggles, yet it is also full of hope, love, and resilience,” says the show’s director, Casey Irey. “It’s a musical that leaves a lasting impact, and we’re honored to bring it to Livingston County.”

“Next to Normal” won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three Tony Awards, including Best Original Score. Its gripping storytelling and powerful music have resonated with audiences worldwide.
