Today, on his 82nd birthday, Steve Manor — longtime teacher, community activist, downtown booster, and Howell City Council member — died at his home after a 5-year battle with cancer. Throughout those five years, Manor remained active and involved; he had just recently resigned from his city council seat.

Manor did not live long enough to hold in his hand the Congressional Resolution entered into the record by U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, though he knew it had been written and delivered; Slotkin called him last week to tell him that he had become part of the nation’s history. (I can only imagine that for a history teacher, becoming part of the historic Congressional Record was quite an honor.)
You can read the resolution below, which contains many details about Manor’s life and his service to the community.
CRS Final – Steve ManorIn recognition of all that Manor meant to the community, Howell found fit to bestow upon him its two highest honors — 2011 Citizen of the Year, and Grand Marshal of the 2022 Fantasy of Lights Parade, which is set to step off on Friday, Nov. 25.
I had the privilege to interview Manor recently. You can read that interview by clicking here.
