Sharing is caring!

Kenneth Ellwood Monroe passed away peacefully and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Oct. 8, at the age of 84.

Ken was born in Fowlerville, Mich., on Oct. 9, 1939, to parents William and Estella Monroe. After high school, Ken continued to live in Fowlerville, where he met the love of his life, Margaret Niblock. Ken and Margaret were married on Sept. 15, 1962, and they enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Ken was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Ken loved his family, making it a point as often as possible to tell them how much he loved and appreciated them, sometimes with words but mostly with a hug and a kiss. He was a compassionate man, who always put his friends and family’s needs in front of his own.

Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his time pheasant and deer hunting, training harness racing horses, trap shooting, coaching and sightseeing, among other things. In his youth he enjoyed fishing with his mom and dad. He also liked relaxing while watching his beloved Spartans and Tigers play. Some of Ken’s greatest pleasures were spending time with his furry friend Harley, and watching his grandson Ryan play hockey.

Ken is survived by his wife, Margaret; son Kenneth (Tammy) Monroe; grandson Ryan Monroe; and daughter Kristen (Jason) Claus.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents William and Estella Monroe, his brother Shirley (Red) and sister Virginia.

A memorial service for Ken will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 323 W. Grand River Ave., Howell. A luncheon will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome charitable donations to one of the following:
