The wildly popular Colasanti’s Market and Snook’s Butcher Shoppe in Highland will be opening its second location in the old Middletown Market at 5580 E. Grand River Ave. in Genoa Township later this year.
Middletown Market has been shuttered since 2023.
Colasanti’s is “renovating the entire store,” according to manager Denise Guckian, who said that because of the extensive work being done, there is no set date for opening, except that it will be later this year.
Those who’ve shopped at the Colasanti’s at 468 S. Milford Road in Highland are probably wondering how all of its offerings will squeeze into the smaller Middletown location. The original Colasanti’s is over 37,000 square feet — featuring lots of diverse and speciality items, from its old-world gourmet market, garden shop, greenhouse, extensive wine and beer selections and organic produce stand, to its butcher, artisan cheese, wine, and flower shops — while Middletown Market is less than a quarter of its size at 8,200 square feet.
“It will be like a Colasanti’s Express,” Guckian said. While there will be a market and butcher shop in the Middletown location, there won’t be a greenhouse; there will be baked goods, but not the full-fledged bakery that operates in its flagship location. Despite the smaller scale of the new location, “we’re trying to leave a lot of it the same,” Guckian said.
