Cleary University hockey goalie Liam Kocur was named Cougar Spotlight player of the week and WHAC’s defensive player of the week.

Kocur, a senior from Milford, made 38 saves on 40 shots when the Cougars faced Lawrence Technological Institute’s Blue Devils last Saturday, Dec. 2 at Cleary’s home arena. He shut out the Blue Devils for the second and third period. Final score of the game was Cleary 4 and Lawrence Tech 2. This was Kocur’s seventh win in net this season.

This year, Cleary hired two new hockey coaches: Scott Gardiner is the team’s new head coach and Randy Montrose was named an assistant head coach and recruiter. Both coaches have roots in Livingston County, previously coaching at local high schools.

“Livingston County has so much great hockey and so many talented players,” reports Gardiner. “We would like to recruit more players from Livingston County.”

He adds, “I know what this hockey program can be and I am excited to work with the players to make this a top ACHA program, a leader in the WHAC, and a top destination for quality student athletes who want to play competitive hockey.”

The Cleary Cougars hockey team improves to 7 – 13 overall and 5 – 9 in the WHAC. Next game is Friday, Dec. 8 when the Cougars host the Eastern Michigan Eagles at home at 140 Ice Den (next to the Cleary campus in Howell.) For a complete schedule of Cleary hockey games, visit www.clearycougars.com.
