The League of Women Voters of Livingston County is sponsoring a “No Kings” protest from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the historic Livingston County Courthouse, 200 E. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell.

The national League of Women Voters is one of the partners for this national day of protest. LWVUS believes the country is in a constitutional crisis, and it is joining with other groups as part of its Unite & Rise 8.5 initiative, which aims to build a movement of 8.5 million individuals to protest what it sees as the anti-democratic actions of this administration. Launched in May 2025 and running until the 2026 midterm elections, this initiative is part of the LWV’s Women Defend Democracy campaign.

“We urge you to make nonpartisan signs in support of Democracy, the Constitution, the Rule of Law, etc., and to avoid profanity and personal attacks on any specific individuals,” the Livingston County LWV said in a release. “LWV is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating voters about their rights and protecting Democracy, so let’s make sure we set a high standard and uphold our values.”
