The Alzheimer’s Association Brighton Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is back in-person again this year on Oct. 2 on Main Street — this time with longtime media personality Chuck Gaidica serving as emcee.
“This cause is extremely close to my heart as my mom, Geri Gaidica, and my father-in-law, John Ottens, both battled Alzheimer’s and dementia,” Gaidica said. “I invite Livingston County area residents and beyond to sign up now to join us in the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia as we walk together — in person again this year — on Oct. 2.”
The Brighton Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which brings together individuals and teams from across Livingston County, also will feature Brett Cummins, Owner/DJ, Motor City HDJ, as event emcee.
Over the last 10 years, the Brighton Walk has raised nearly $1 million for Alzheimer’s and dementia care, support and critical research. While the event doesn’t take place until Oct. 2, organizing is in full swing and the Alzheimer’s Association needs your help to have the largest impact.
“Alzheimer’s is not taking a hiatus during COVID-19 and neither are we,” said Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter President and CEO Jennifer Lepard. “We must continue the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and we are working to ensure that all our participants have a powerful and moving experience.”
According to Lepard, the Alzheimer’s Association will continue to offer options to participate virtually as well.
Current sponsors of the Brighton Walk to End Alzheimer’s include The Ted and Jane Von Voigtlander Foundation, Cooper & Binkley Jewelers, The Willows at Howell, Westlake Health Campus, Cambrian Senior Living, Best Buy, Village Manor Retirement, Caretel Inns of Brighton, Executive Wealth Management, Independence Village of Brighton Valley, Arbor Hospice, BrightStar Care, and First National Bank.
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
In Michigan alone, there are more than 190,000 people living with the disease and 463,000 caregivers.
