A Lake Orion-area man was shot dead on Christmas Day by the man his estranged wife was visiting in Fowlerville.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 7:09 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, to a 911 call of shots fired at a home in the 5500 block of Nicholson Road in Fowlerville. When they arrived, they discovered that the Lake Orion man, who had been armed, was dead at the scene after being shot.

The homeowner, who had called 911, had also been shot and was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the Lake Orion man entered the Fowlerville home and fired multiple shots at the homeowner, hitting him twice. The Fowlerville man shot back, hitting the intruder.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the dead man as the estranged husband of the woman who was visiting the Fowlerville man. According to the release from the Sheriff’s Office, the dead man had traveled approximately one hour from the Lake Orion area to the Fowlerville home.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
