“Love Remains,” a painting by by Julia Zastrow of Cheryl Stockwell Preparatory Academy, will hang in U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s Washington, D.C., office after it won second place in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 7th District
Slotkin announced the winners of this year’s competition, which is an opportunity for students across the country to showcase their artistic abilities.
Each year, students in grades 9-12 who reside or attend school in the district are invited to prepare their work for submission, with the winning entry to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
“One of my favorite traditions as a Member of Congress is the annual Congressional Art Competition,” said Slotkin. “I’m always so blown away by the talented students in our district, as well as their ability to use their artwork to make a statement. Thank you to everyone who submitted this year — we had more than 40 incredible pieces and you did not make it easy on our judges.”
