Brighton grad named MAC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year

Cat Kopchia, a lacrosse player who graduated from Brighton High School in 2020, has been named Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year for 2024 by the Mid-American Conference.

Kopchia, who plays for the Detroit Mercy Titans, is a two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Week, and currently tops the team with 61 points (second in the MAC), and 55 goals (second in the league) and 29th in the nation.

She was the only freshman at Brighton High School selected to play varsity. She was a four-year varsity letter-winner in lacrosse for the Bulldogs.

Kopchia is the daughter of Pietrina and Larry Kopchia of Brighton. She has an older sibling, Maria. Her father played football at Wayne State University, and her sister played soccer at Cleary University.

Her career highlights at Detroit Mercy include:

• 2x Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (2021, 2022)

• 2x MAC Offensive Player of the Week (2/20/24, 4/2/24)

• MAC Offensive Player of the Year (2024)

• First Team All-MAC (2024)

• MAC All-Tournament Team (2024)

• IWLCA Senior All-Star Game (2024)
