Brighton boys meet Canton in first-place showdown — with broadcast links

The Brighton boys basketball team, fresh off a dominating win over Plymouth on Friday, takes on a more daunting task tonight, when the Bulldogs play host to Canton in a mid-season showdown.

Brighton (10-2 overall ,4-1 KLAA West) will have the home court advantage against Canton (7-5, 5-0).

The game will be broadcast on The Livingston Post at around 6:50 p.m.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 77-48 home win in which they shot 57 percent from the floor and hit 11 3-pointers while running out t a 27-7 lead in the first quarter.

“We haven’t been that good consistently for a whole game,” Brighton coach Mike Griest said afterward. “Ashton (Tomassi) was fantastic on offense and defense, and the rest did what they needed to do.”

Tomassi had 25 points and six steals, while he and Eddie Millington (who added 32 points) combined for 10 3-pointers.

Griest expects Canton will be a bigger challenge.

“They’re really good,” he said of the Chiefs. “We have a chance to be pretty good. I like our chances. Our crowd’s been good. I’m looking forward to it.”
