The second season begins in high school baseball today, and for Brighton, the Bulldogs are hoping it lasts more than one game.

The Bulldogs (25-10) are playing host toSouth Lyon East in a predistrict game at Brighton High School. The game will be broadcast on The Livingston Post starting at 4:20 p.m. Click here for the link.

“They’re going to try to put the ball in play and be aggressive, and so will we,” Brighton coach Charlie Christner said. “You never know what’s going to happen when it cmes down to one game.”

The Cougars (11-18) lost their first six games to start the season, but have won seven of their last 10, including four in a row.

East has a team ERA of 5.55 and an overall batting average of .249, compared to 2.40 and .315 for Brighton.

But, in his 10 seasons as Brighton’s coach, Christner has seen a little bit of everything in the postseason, some of which ended Brighton ‘s season prematurely.

“It’s a bounce here or a break there,” Christner said. “It’s a break that goes their way or goes our way. It can be the difference in a lot of ways. It’s different from the regular season, to be sure. You’ve got to put the bst guys our there in the best situations.”

The Bulldogs are on a roll, too, having won eight of their last nine.

“I think were in a really good spot, as good as we’ve been in all year,” Christner said. “Everyone says ‘one game at a time,’ but this is the time where it’s literally the  case.”
