Bountiful Harvest, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the displaced and the hungry, is breaking ground on a new facility in a ceremony set 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at 300 E. Grand River, Brighton, in the back parking lot of First Presbyterian Church.
When completed, the new facility will more than triple Bountiful Harvest’s ability to serve Livingston County’s needy. It will also transform the way the organization serves the community with permanent, full-time service capabilities.
Bountiful Harvest provides warm meals and take-out food, clothing, counseling and other basic needs through a 100-percent volunteer workforce with no government funding
In 2017, Bountiful Harvest provided services for 4,500 families, and since 2011 it has distributed over 1.4 million pounds of food.
In order to complete the project, Bountiful Harvest still needs to raise money. So far, it has raised $380,000 of the $590,000 needed to complete the building.
Despite the funding gap, construction on the exterior work will be done by mid- December. It is expected that the interior portion will be completed and functional by April 1, 2019.
Major project partners so far include:
• First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, which donated the land
• Brighton Rotary, for $55,000 in donation, and $20,000 in matching funds still available
• Lindhout Associates, architectural services
• BD Donovan Builders, construction management
• Metro Consulting Associates, civil engineering and surveying
• Strategic Energy Solutions, mechanical, electrical and geothermal engineering
• Midwest Geothermal, geothermal installation contractor
• G2 Consulting, geothermal engineering
