Back-to-school has arrived, and Bank of Ann Arbor is offering Greenlight, a debit card and money-saving app for kids of all ages. Greenlight helps to foster money-smart kids and teens by teaching them to be financially literate through the app’s educational game, Level Up.
Teens currently score an average of 64% on the National Financial Literacy Test, showing a clear gap in financial education that is accessible and effective. The engaging Level Up game included in the Greenlight app covers topics ranging from creating a budget to developing a saving mindset, introducing kids to good spending habits early on.
Greenlight helps kids shop smart and score big. The Greenlight debit card makes it simple when shopping requires cashless payments. Parents can manage their children’s spending by funding cards directly through Bank of Ann Arbor accounts, allowing them to set parameters for releasing their allowance once chores have been completed.
“We are excited about our new digital money and financial literacy app for teens and youth,” said Tim Marshall, president and CEO of Bank of Ann Arbor. “With so many schools going cashless, parents can use their existing account at Bank of Ann Arbor or open a new account with us to set up your kids on Greenlight. The money app allows for spending via a debit card, a savings component, and a charitable giving component. Greenlight through Bank of Ann Arbor is a robust app that we hope you will find to be a useful tool in teaching financial literacy to our youth of today.”
Surveys show 91% of kids and teens believe they need financial knowledge and skills to achieve their life goals, and 94% of parents are in agreement.* To learn how to get your family started with Greenlight, visit boaa.com/greenlight, call (734) 662.1600, or visit a local Bank of Ann Arbor branch.
*Survey insights were collected by Greenlight through a Researchscape survey fielded between March 22 and March 24, 2024, among 2,310 respondents in the U.S., split between kids and teens ages 10-19 and parents of 10–19-year-olds.
