A dozen years after taking the reins of Second Chance Support Network as it was on the brink of dissolution, Jennifer Bigelow is retiring on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Bigelow undertook a multitude of tasks — from data entry to grant writing, mentor training, client onboarding, fundraising, and beyond — to ensure the continuity of SCSN’s mission to give second chances at life to men and women who have been incarcerated.

Under Bigelow’s leadership, SCSN forged strong partnerships with other nonprofits and key individuals in Livingston County’s judicial system to maximize resources and support for SCSN’s mentees. Bigelow’s vision also led to the inception of the Jobs Preparation Program, which equips mentees with essential skills for successful reintegration into the workforce.
One of Bigelow’s significant achievements was recruiting and training nearly 100 mentors who play pivotal roles in guiding hundreds of mentees through SCSN’s flagship Pathways Mentorship Program. Additionally, she spearheaded the opening of SCSN’s former resale store, providing employment opportunities to returning citizens, and avenues for individuals in need of community service to fulfill their requirements.
“Jennifer’s unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have transformed the lives of countless individuals in our community,” said Meghan Reckling, president of the SCSN board of directors. “Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we carry forward the mission of Second Chance Support Network.”
To honor Bigelow’s years of service and commitment, SCSN is hosting a retirement party from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Coratti’s, 316 W. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell. All are welcome to join the SCSN board of directors in expressing gratitude and appreciation for Bigelow’s contributions to the community through her work at SCSN.
