A rally to support 7th District U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett’s efforts in passing President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Barrett’s office, 328 W. Ottawa St. in Lansing, just north of the Capitol Building.
The current 7th district, drawn in 2022, centers around Lansing and includes all of Livingston, Clinton, Ingham and Shiawassee counties, as well as portions of Eaton, Genesee, and Oakland counties. The chair of the 7th District Republican Party is Daniel Schifko of Livingston County.
“Congressional Republicans continue to fight far-left Democrats attempts to derail the restoration of our country,” reads a post on the Ingham County Republican Party’s Facebook page. “…We need your voice to ensure that everyone hears the truth about President Trump’s signature piece of legislation!”
The bill is being marketed by Republicans as providing tax relief to Michigan families, reforming Medicare and Medicaid, and securing the border to stop the flow of illegal drugs and criminals into the U.S.
The bill will also add $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years, and more than $4 trillion when accounting for additional interest owed, according to the Bipartisan Policy Center.
