A 13-year-old girl riding her bicycle on the Lakelands Trail is hospitalized in critical condition after she failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2014 Ford Focus heading north on Farley Road in Putnam Township at approximately 4:33 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, according to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
The preliminary investigation shows that the girl, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was thrown from her bicycle; she was transported by Livingston County EMS to the University of Michigan Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford Focus, a 17-year-old Pinckney boy, and his 15-year-old male passenger, both of whom were wearing seat belts, were not injured.
According to the release, speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The road was closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and clean up.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Hamburg Township Police Department, Putnam Township Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS,
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
