The Brighton High School Dramatic Arts department is presenting its production of “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, 7878 Brighton Road. Performances are set for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2; and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3.
This funny, Monty Python-esque retelling of the classic Robin Hood story centers on its swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero, who swaggers throughout this production.
The legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel in distress, who is oddly obsessed with skin conditions; a scheming sheriff, who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bullseye; a gold-hoarding, bad-guy monach wannabe; and a good-natured “Town’s Person”; all of whom make their way into every scene, whether they belong there or not.
Combine all those characters with an expandable band of spoon-wielding Merry Men — whose collective IQs equal 6 — and you’ve got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest that you won’t soon forget.
The play is by Mary Lynn Dobson. “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.
