There will be no primary elections in the cities of Brighton or Howell this year, and, unless someone comes forward and runs a successful write-in campaign, Howell has its next mayor.
Current council member Nickolas Hertrich filed for the two-year term as mayor. Current Mayor Bob Ellis is not seeking re-election, and no other candidate filed to run. Unless a successful write-in campaign is mounted, Hertrich will be Howell’s next mayor.
Six candidates filed for three four-year terms on the Howell City Council. Three of the candidates are incumbents: Jan Lobur, Jacob Schlittler, and Luke Wilson. In addition to those three, Jeff Amayo, Michael Gaitan-Flores, and Stacy Rutledge will be on the ballot.
Additionally, there are three candidates who’ve filed for Howell’s board of review. In addition to incumbent Tim Schnelle, Doug Heins, and Brett G. Snow will be on the ballot.
In Brighton, six candidates filed for city council. The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will get four-year terms, and the candidate receiving the fourth highest number of votes will get a two-year-term.
The candidates are: Bill Albert, Christy Jensen, Renee Pettengill, Ken Schmenk, Christine Sloan, and Kristoffer Tobbe.
Candidates have until 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, to withdraw their petitions to appear on the ballot. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
