U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett on Thursday hosted U.S. Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler, a member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, in mid-Michigan for the second time to meet with local workers and small-business owners who are benefiting from the relief Barrett and the president delivered through the Working Families Tax Cuts, also known as the Big Beautiful Bill.
The congressman and administrator participated in a roundtable, visited Motorsports Gateway in Howell, and met with business leaders at the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and toured Campbell Press Repair in Lansing.
“The Working Families Tax Cuts are rewarding the Michigan work ethic and helping people keep more of their hard-earned paychecks,” said Barrett in a release. “Now, families are getting bigger refunds this tax season, and small businesses have more resources to invest in our local workforce. I’m grateful to Administrator Loeffler for joining me today to hear directly from the hard-working small business owners of mid-Michigan as we continue working together to make life more affordable and grow our economy.”
“What we saw today is consistent with what we see across the country: Historic tax cuts mean that hardworking families and small businesses keep more of what they earn,” Loeffler said. “On the anniversary of Liberation Day, it is clear that the America First agenda is restoring opportunity across Michigan — all because President Trump and Congressman Barrett are putting American industry and American workers first. There are few states that benefit more from Made in America than Michigan.”
During the visit, Barrett and Loeffler went to Motorsports Gateway, a Howell business that recently obtained a loan from the Small Business Administration to help build its racetrack. Barrett’s office helped the business resolve a paperwork issue and secure the loan.
“For more than 70 years, the Small Business Administration has supported America’s small businesses. Through our SBA loan, we’re building a motorsports facility focused on performance driver training,” said Jordan Dier, co-founder of Motorsports Gateway. “We’re grateful to Congressman Barrett for his support in securing this critical financing, and to both him and Administrator Loeffler for visiting Motorsports Gateway to see the progress firsthand. Their commitment to small businesses continues to strengthen our economy and support job creation here in Howell.”
At the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Barrett and Loeffler heard directly from mid-Michigan small-business owners about their biggest successes and challenges. They also toured Campbell Press Repair, a Lansing machine shop whose engineers and skilled technicians maintain, repair, and rebuild forging and stamping machines for manufacturers around the world.
