U.S. House Leader Kevin McCarthy is hosting a roundtable at the Southeast Michigan Construction Academy in Madison Heights with local business leaders and union officials at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Attending the roundtable will be three of Michigan’s Republican Congressional hopefuls:
• State Sen. Tom Barrett, who is running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the newly drawn 7th District, which includes all of Livingston, Ingham, Clinton and Shiawassee counties, as well as a majority of Eaton County and small portions of Oakland and Genesee counties. The new district also includes the state capital of Lansing.
• Paul Junge, who lost to U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the 8th District in 2020.
• John James, who lost two bids for Michigan Senate, one in 2018 against Sen. Debbie Stabenow, and one in 2020 against Sen. Gary Peters. James is running for the 10th District against Carl Marlinga, a former Macomb County judge and prosecutor.
At the roundtable, the discussion will be on how a Republican majority can reinvigorate the economy.
