Artist Susan Pominville of Howell is taking her creative approach to raising money to feel families in Livingston County and using it to help feed refugees in Ukraine.

Pominville is offering prints of her work “LAYERS” — a 4-foot by 8-foot painting of a local sunflower field made up of smaller canvasses of varying sizes — to raise money for World Central Kitchen, which is on the ground in eight various locations, feeding Ukrainian refugees.

Sunflowers have special meaning in Ukraine. The Sunflower (sunyashniki in Ukrainian) has long been a symbol of peace for Ukraine. In the summer of 1996, sunflowers were planted by officials at the Pervomaysk missile base in southern Ukraine to mark the removal of nuclear weapons from the country.
