The New Year is here, and with that comes a renewed focus on exercising and eating healthier to lose weight. But what do you do when exercise and healthy eating don’t have the desired result you want, and when your weight leads to illnesses?

If you share these concerns, we encourage you to consider meeting with us and determining if you are a good candidate for bariatric surgery at Trinity Health Livingston and the Trinity Health IHA Medical Group.

During your initial consultation, you will meet with a dietitian and surgeon. If you are approximately 100 pounds over the ideal weight for your height, or 75 pounds over with an associated health problem such as diabetes, osteoarthritis or high cholesterol, you will likely be a good candidate. We offer several kinds of surgeries and tailor your surgery to meet your needs.

All the surgeries change anatomy in different ways to increase feelings of fullness, but also change metabolism by altering the way the gut communicates with the brain and the rest of the body. These changes result in health benefits that go far beyond weight loss, leading to potential improvements in sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and even curing diabetes.

We are also one of the few programs in the state of Michigan at Trinity Health Livingston to offer a surgery called the modified duodenal switch. This operation creates a smaller sleeve-shaped stomach, but also bypasses a significant portion of the intestine. This has a major impact on metabolism and results in excellent weight loss for most people. It is particularly useful for patients with higher weights or with metabolic diseases like diabetes.

We are also one of the only centers in Michigan performing the modified duodenal switch, among other surgeries, with robotic-assisted laparoscopy. This minimally invasive and precise technique helps reduce pain and complications, leading to a faster recovery and an excellent outcome.

As a part of the Trinity Health IHA Medical Group, we take a multidisciplinary approach with a care team that includes surgeons, dietitians, physician assistants and other licensed medical professionals, all of whom work together so you can safely reach your desired outcome.

If you are aiming to lose weight and keep that weight off this year, all while improving your overall health, give us a call at 810-494-6881 and schedule an in-person or online appointment.
