The Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is accepting applications for the 2022 Margaret Starkey Scholarship, which recognizes outstanding employees who are also attending college or technical school.
Approximately 3-4 scholarships of up to $1,500 each are awarded in June.
The Margaret Starkey Scholarship started in the 1980s to honor Margaret Starkey, who worked for the Chamber for 31 years.
In the days before there was an executive director or a president on staff, Mrs. Starkey “ran the show,” keeping things humming at the chamber, working with the board and volunteers, and making sure all programs and member benefits ran smoothly. She remained at the chamber as an executive assistant when the first executive director was hired, and after retirement continued doing the chamber’s books from her home.
The foundation will award scholarships to non-traditional students nominated by their employers. Those selected will best exemplify Starkey’s outstanding qualities of dedication, enthusiasm, community service and attention to detail, all these accompanied by Starkey’s success despite obstacles in her life.
The goal of the scholarship is to assist outstanding, non-traditional students who are advancing their education while working. If you wish to honor such an employee, complete the 2022 application and return it to the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation before Monday, May 16, 2022.
