Livingston County Commissioner Roger Deaton of Genoa Township has been named Michigan’s 2024 Legionnaire of the Year for his service to the state’s veterans, their families, and the community.

“I am humbled to receive this honor,” Deaton said.

Deaton served in the U.S. Navy from 1986 to 1994. He joined the Legion 34 years ago and has served at various levels since, including as 6th District American Legion Commander; Zone 3 Vice Commander; and American Legion Riders Director for Post 235. He was also the recipient of the 2021 Michigan American Legion Adjutant of the Year Award.

Deaton is scheduled to receive the honor at the American Legion’s 106th State Convention on Friday, July 12, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
