We asked questions of some of the students involved in the production. Here, we talk to Gemma Jaworski, a junior at Hartland High School, who plays Ginette and Suzette in “Almost, Maine.”
What do you think is the universal meaning behind this show?
The play “Almost, Maine,” is meant to represent the different stages of love. From realizing your feelings, to confessing to your loved one, to even falling out of love. This play takes you through the pages of many different love stories, allowing you to feel the pain, hope, and joy of each narrative.
What is your theater background? Did you get involved as a child, or is it more of a recent pursuit?
I have just recently started participating in theater, my first production being Honk! last spring. Almost, Maine is my second show, and I am sure that it will not be my last.
What extracurriculars and/or clubs are you involved with in addition to Hartland Drama Club?
I am starting my first season of Winter Guard this winter and could not be more excited.
How has your participation in Hartland Drama Club impacted your high school experience?
Being in Hartland Drama Club has allowed me to find a family that supports me and aids me in growing to my fullest potential.
What advice would you give to your character, and what advice would they give to you?
I would tell Ginette to keep being genuine. She says what she means and that allows people to trust her. Additionally, I would tell her to live fearlessly. She seems to be afraid of what others think of her, rather than living for herself. She could say the same thing about me, though.
I would tell Suzette to take a chance and try something new. I get the feeling that she is so afraid of being seen as rude that she lets people walk all over her. Again, that could be said to me as well.
What would your character’s theme song be? What about your own?
Ginette’s theme song would be “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. Suzette’s theme song would be “Little Things” by One Direction. My theme song would be “No Judgment” by Niall Horan.
