Alex Hansen, a Howell Township resident, is running for the Democratic nomination for 5th District Livingston County Commissioner. The district encompasses the City of Howell, as well as the townships of Howell and Cohoctah.

“It’s time to bring back moral and compassionate progressive policies to Livingston County that are in line with the needs of the 21st century,” Hansen said. “As our county’s deteriorating infrastructure continues to disadvantage our residents, our board of commissioners continue to point fingers at other branches of government and shift blame. We deserve results.”

Hansen is a banker with over a decade of experience.

“I understand the importance of a balanced budget and fiscal responsibility,” he said. “Success can only be achieved when all stakeholders are heard and their concerns are addressed in a manner that generates success for everyone, not just those with the most assets.

“For the past decade, we have seen the roads decay while excuses have been made regarding the state of public health and transportation. I will work tirelessly to improve our infrastructure, increase public transportation, and cultivate opportunities for affordable housing. The time for inaction and excuses is over.”

Hansen’s experience in the banking industry has convinced him that government could do much more to encourage investment in affordable housing.

Hansen manages a branch location for Community Financial Credit Union, a not-for- profit full service financial institution. His duties are divided between providing his members with exceptional financial service and managing his team. In January 2018, Hansen was appointed to the Howell Township Zoning Board of Appeals and serves as president of the Amber Oaks Homeowners Association. He previously worked for PNC Bank and National City.

While in high school, Hansen earned an Eagle Scout rank from the Boy Scouts of America and participated in 4-H where he was active showing chickens. Hansen obtained a bachelor of fine drts degree from Northern Michigan University in 2007 and is graduating with an MBA from Davenport University this month.

His wife, Marie Arao-Hansen, attended Brighton High School as an exchange student. She obtained her Bachelors’ degrees and Master’s degree from Michigan State University. Mrs. Arao-Hansen is a public school teacher. They have been married for four and a half years and are expecting their first child in May.

Hansen is the only Democrat to announce for the 5th District, which includes the city of Howell and the townships of Howell and Cohoctah.
