Authorities say alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in a crash on Dutton Road north of Roberts Road in Iosco Township on Sunday that claimed the life of a 40-year-old Gregory man.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the crash site at about 6:32 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, approaching Dutton Road at a high rate of speed from a private drive, lost control of the vehicle, which slid sideways and overturned onto the roadway.

The driver, a 42-year-old Gregory man, was transported with minor injuries to U-M Health Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by Livingston County EMS. His seat belt use remains under investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, alcohol and speed appear be contributing factors in the crash. The roadway remained closed for four hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Fowlerville Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.
