Dr. Hriday Shah

Dr. Hriday Shah is Chairman of the Radiology Department at Trinity Health Livingston. In this Q&A, he highlights the new advanced imaging equipment that has been acquired for the new Trinity Health Livingston hospital location in Brighton, and how that equipment promises to elevate the quality of care for Livingston County residents.

Q: For community members that may not be aware, when will Trinity Health Livingston complete its move to the new hospital campus in Brighton?

Dr. Shah: The new location will officially open on April 19, 2026. Staff and equipment from the previous location will transition over several weeks before and after that date, but that is when the hospital will open its doors to the public for the first time at 7575 Grand River Ave. in Brighton.

Q: We heard the new hospital will have new and advanced imaging technology. Can you share any details about that?

Dr. Shah: We are very excited to introduce two brand-new cardiac-capable CT scanners once the new hospital opens, which will provide advanced heart imaging right here in Livingston County. This technology will show early detection of plaque around the patient’s heart, supporting a faster and more accurate assessment of their risk of potentially having a heart attack in the future. We are excited to offer this so that moving forward, our community members won’t have to travel outside our community for sophisticated cardiac imaging.

Additionally, we will also have two new MRI scanners that will be able to offer many new services to our patients. All our new equipment will provide significantly higher quality images, shorter scan times, and imaging capabilities that the current hospital does not have, including Breast Biopsy MRI, Prostate MRI, Cardiac MRI, and Cardiac CT. The new hospital campus, and the key investments we’ve made, including in Radiology capabilities, are going to elevate the standard of care we are able to provide.

We will also add a new SPECT/CT to the Nuclear Medicine department. SPECT/CT brings important benefits to patients and the community by combining two types of imaging — functional SPECT and detailed CT — into one powerful system. This gives doctors clearer, more accurate information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Adding CT to SPECT helps to pinpoint exactly where in the body there is concern, thus reducing uncertainty.

Q: How were these new imaging services funded?

Dr. Shah: A major $3 million gift from the Ted and Jane Von Voigtlander Foundation, the largest donation towards the Forging our Future campaign, funded this new technology. The Imaging Department will also be named in honor of the late Ted and Jane Von Voigtlander, recognizing the generous gift the foundation gave to make this possible. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity and for the significant impact it will have on the care provided to Livingston County residents in the years to come.

Q: What other imaging and radiology services will the new hospital offer?

Dr. Shah: Patients will continue to have access to the full complement of diagnostic services that they have grown accustomed to at our legacy hospital campus in Howell. Those services include but are not limited to:

  • General X‑ray
  • Fluoroscopy
  • CT/CTA
  • 3D digital mammography and breast cancer screening
  • MRI/MRA
  • PET/CT
  • Ultrasound
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Interventional Radiography

CT, X-Ray and Ultrasound are available 24/7 and only for in-patient and Emergency Department ordered procedures.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like people to know?

Dr. Shah: These expanded imaging capabilities are central to the vision for the hospital in Brighton. These enhancements will allow patients to receive more advanced diagnostic imaging close to home that previously required travel to other facilities outside the county. As our hospital president John O’Malley always says, these technological advancements will ensure we will “keep local care local” and that patients will continue receiving imaging services from the same trusted care team, ensuring a seamless transition during the move in April.
