Adam Griffith — whose Eagle Scout Project was to lead others in building shelves and benches inside the Highlander Reading Express book bus — earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Sept. 20, 2018. Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Highlander Reading Express mobile library was put into service in June by the Howell Public Schools District. The Highlander Reading Express visited areas around the community to promote summer reading. Through this initiative Howell Public Schools hopes to reduce summer reading loss, maintain student achievement levels and increase excitement for reading. The project involved 25 workers who put in a total of 201.75.

Griffith started Scouting as a Tiger Cub in Pack 330 in Fowlerville. He crossed over to Troop 362 in the Spring of 2012. As a member of the Troop, he served in leadership positions including patrol leader, scribe, and assistant senior patrol leader. When he earned his Eagle rank, Griffith had completed 29 merit badges (13 of which are required), attended 34 camps including six summer camps, and spent 89 nights camping. Some of his adventures with the Troop include scuba diving, caving, dog sledding and a trip to Yellowstone. Adam earned the National Outdoor Award for camping in 2015.

Troop 362 is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and is currently chartered by the Howell Rotary Club. Inquiries can be sent to bsatroop362@charter.net.
