Paul Junge

The American Conservative Union (ACU) is endorsing of Paul Junge in the Republican primary for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.

“Paul Junge is the best choice,” said Matt Schlapp, chairman of the ACU. “A lifelong conservative, Paul has an accomplished resume of fighting for the issues that we at ACU care about. Working for President Trump at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Paul has been on the front lines of enforcing immigration laws and new Trump policies like protecting our borders and ending sanctuary cities. Paul is incredibly dedicated to giving MI-08 the conservative leadership it deserves. Paul Junge is passionately Pro-Life, supports the Second Amendment, and supports further tax cuts and deregulation to strengthen our economy.  We are proud to support his candidacy and we urge everyone in Michigan’s 8th congressional district to make their voice heard and cast their vote for Paul Junge.”

“I am honored to be endorsed by the American Conservative Union,” Junge said. “The ACU is a highly respected organization that brings conservatives together every year for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).”

Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union is the nation’s original conservative organization.  For more than 50 years, ACU has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, and strong national defense.  As one of America’s premier conservative voices, ACU promotes a conservative vision on issues before Congress, the Executive Branch, State legislatures, the media, political candidates, and the public.

Junge, who is challenging first-term Democrat Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, is the only candidate in southeast Michigan to reach “Contender” status by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in its Young Guns program, which is for candidates in open or challenger seats for which the Republican has a favorable opportunity for victory.  “Contender” status is step two of three, and Junge achieving “Contender” status signifies he is building a strong campaign to defeat Slotkin.

ABOUT THE RACE
U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a moderate Democrat, flipped the 8th District seat held by Republicans for almost two decades by beating U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, in 2018.

Candidates in the Republican primary include Mike Detmer of Howell, a sales manger at an automobile dealership; Alan Hoover, an Iraq veteran and entrepreneur from Ortonville in Oakland County; Paul Junge of Brighton, a former prosecutor and TV news anchor; and Kristina Lyke of Fowlerville, an attorney at Lyke Law in East Lansing.
