A 69-year-old Fenton man driving a 2021 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle is hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a 2019 Ford Transit van in a construction area on Argentine Road near Sedge Lane in Deerfield Township.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:28 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, the motorcyclist was stopped for a construction zone on Argentine Road in which a single lane of travel was controlled by flaggers at each end. While the Harley Davidson driver was stopped by a construction flagger, he was read-ended by the Transit van, which was driven by a 45-year-old Southgate man.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc by Livingston County EMS; he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The man driving the Ford Transit van was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Distracted driving appears to be a contributing factor in the crash. The road remained closed for approximately four hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Hartland Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.

The accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
