At approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer closed a lane of eastbound I-96 near Chilson Road in Genoa Township for approximately six hours while emergency crews cleaned up the scene.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 2013 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on I-96 when the driver, a 49-year-old Detroit resident, fell asleep. The tractor-trailer went onto the right shoulder, over rumble strips, and off the roadway to the right before rolling over on its side.
The tractor-trailer was the only vehicle involved in the accident and no injuries were reported. The driver was wearing his seatbelt. Alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident.
