Watoto Children’s Choir

About 50 million children in Africa have been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war, poverty and disease. The Watoto Children’s Choir is comprised of Ugandan children who have suffered the loss of their parents. They will be performing a free concert at The Commons in Brighton on June 18.

Nancy Smith and her sister are helping to organize and promote the event in order to raise awareness about the plight of the African orphan, and about Watoto and the work they are doing. In 2009 Nancy spent over 2 months volunteering at Watoto’s baby home in Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. She reports, “It was truly a life-changing experience. I returned to the United States a different person and I have never looked back.”

Watoto is currently caring for approximately 1,800 orphans in Uganda. They would like to have the capability to care for 10,000 children by the year 2023.

The Commons is located at 7526 Grand River, across from Woodland Health Center. The concert starts at 7pm, and is free.

The choir is also performing on June 12 at Dexter United Methodist Church, and on June 16 at Tyrone Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fenton.
