A 23-year-old man was killed Wednesday, July 1, when the trench he was working in at a commercial construction site on Grand River Avenue and Nicholson Road in Handy Township collapsed.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the construction site on a report of an industrial accident at approximately 2:30 p.m. Their preliminary investigation shows that employees were placing underground tanks at the site.
The 23-year-old man was working in the trench when it collapsed and trapped him for a short period of time. Deputies and workers were able to extricate him from the trench, and they attempted life-saving efforts.
The man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Fowlerville Police Department, Fowlerville Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, Livingston County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
No additional information regarding the victim or company will be released at this time. Any additional information will come from MIOSHA as this is a work site accident.
