It appears as though we have an energized electorate this year.
A whopping 33.96 percent of Livingston County voters turned out for Tuesday’s primary, which is likely a record (or close to it). By comparison, Livingston County turnout in the 2016 primary was 19.74 percent; in 2014 it was 20.63 percent; and in 2012, it was 20.62.
There was also record turnout statewide this year, with nearly 28 percent of voters casting ballots. That’s the highest going back to at least 1978, when they started keeping records.
As for which areas of Livingston County had the highest and lowest turnout, let’s hear it for the Brighton area! The five highest-turnout precincts were all in the southeast portion of the county.
The five precincts with the highest turnout:
- City of Brighton, Precinct 4 – 58.70%
- City of Brighton, Precinct 3 – 46.41%
- Genoa Township, Precinct 4 – 46.10%
- Hamburg Township, Precinct 7 – 45.15%
- Genoa Township, Precinct 8 – 43.96%
On the other end of the spectrum, here are the five precincts with the lowest turnout:
- Genoa Township, Precinct 2 – 16.80%
- Green Oak Township, Precinct 7 – 20.81%
- Handy Township, Precinct 2 – 22.25%
- City of Howell, Precinct 2 – 23.57%
- Tyrone Township, Precinct 1 – 27.02%
